Towaco is a section of Montville Township in Morris County, NJ. The name comes from the Indian word "Taiwaughaugh" which means "land of the foothills." During the 1800s, the Morris Canal traveled through the community and a small village formed. Eventually, the canal was replaced by the railroad, which offered faster transportation. Today, the Towaco Train Station is located in the center of town. A few shops and businesses are located across the street. U.S. Route 202 travels through the community and parallels the railroad. Towaco (07082) has its own post office and fire department. Although there are historic homes and old farm houses from the 1700s and 1800s sprinkled across the community, most of the homes and neighborhoods were constructed beginning in the 1950s. Ranch, cape, bi-level, split level, and colonial homes are all common. Towaco is located on the northern end of Montville Township. Bus and train service to NYC are available.

NJ Route 23 and Interstate 287 are just a few minutes away. The Towaco Train Station is on the NJ Transit Montclair-Boonton Line which offers service to Hoboken Terminal. Passengers can transfer to another train or bus before Hoboken for a Midtown Manhattan commute. At Hoboken Terminal, passengers can switch to the PATH to reach NYC. Lakeland Bus Lines provides service from Towaco to NY Port Authority Terminal in Midtown. During rush hour, this bus ride takes about 50 minutes.

Public schools for residents include Cedar Hill (K-5), Robert R. Lazar Middle School (6-8), and Montville High School (9-12).

The nearby town of Lincoln Park has a charming downtown with various retail shops and restaurants. NJ Route 23 offers national chain stores and popular restaurants. The Willowbrook Mall is about 20 minutes away in Wayne.
