Whippany is a section of Hanover Township in Morris County, NJ. Whippany's name is derived from the Whippanong Native Americans, a tribe that once inhabited the area. Whippanong meant "place of the willows," named for the trees growing along the banks of the Whippany River. Making up two-thirds of Hanover Township, the community is well-know for its great location and low property taxes. Whippany (07981) has its own post office. U.S. Highway 287 and New Jersey Routes 10 and 24 all pass through the community, giving it easy accessibility to Manhattan and employment centers in northern New Jersey. The Township of Hanover boasts one of the lowest tax rates in Morris County NJ. The Whippany Railway Museum is a local attraction located off Route 10.

Commute

Whippany has convenient access to Interstate 287 which runs north-south through Morris County and provides an easy connection to the major east-west routes including Interstate 80, 280, and NJ Route 24. Newark International Airport is a mere 30 minutes away. The train station in Morristown and Madison is located close by.

Schools

There are three public elementary schools in the Township teaching grades K-5: Bee Meadow, Salem Drive, and Mountview Road. Memorial Junior School teaches grades 6-8. Students in grades 9-12 attend the Whippany Park Regional High School.

Hanover Township boasts many superb public attractions including the Whippany Railway Museum, the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and the Morris County Library. Patriot's Path, a 26-mile-long wilderness walkway and bike trail, also pass through the Township along the Whippany River. Hanover Township contains many municipal parks and recreational facilities including Bee Meadow Park and Pool, Black Brook Park, Central Park, Malapardis Park, Monroe Center and Park, and the Township Community Center.

Shopping

There is an amazing amount of nearby shopping for residents. From big chain stores in Parsippany and East Hanover, to small shops and boutiques in Madison and Morristown, everything you need is just a short drive away. The Rockaway Townsquare and Short Hills Malls are about 15 minutes away.
